Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest

The Alameda Elks sponsor the Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Competition every year for boys and girls in Alameda.

The preliminary Hoop Shoot competition takes place in the 7 Alameda city parks listed below and the Alameda Point Gym each October through December. Contestants are encouraged to enter as many times as they can. The top 3 contestants will be invited to the citywide finals held in January.

Locations are:

  • Bayport Park

  • Franklin Park

  • Leydecker Park

  • Lincoln Park

  • Longfellow Park

  • Tillman Park

  • Washington Park

  • Alameda Point Gym

 

The contest consists of shooting free throws. Each contestant has 25 shots at the hoop. A child may compete as many times as he or she wishes. Classifications are as follows:

Class A – 12 to 13 year-olds This division is open to youth who do not reach their 14th birthday before April 1, 2018.

Class B – 10 to 11 year-olds This division is open to youth who do not reach their 12th birthday before April 1, 2018.

Class C – 8 to 9 year-olds This division is open to youth who do not reach their 10th birthday before April 1, 2018. Seven year olds who reach their eighth birthday before April 1, 2017, are also eligible in this category.

The top three finalists in each division are eligible to represent their park or club at the city-wide finals, to be held on January 5, 2018 at Alameda Point Gymnasium. The winners in each division will then go on to represent the Alameda Elks and the City of Alameda at the Elks District Shoot-Off being held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Serra High School in San Mateo.
