Each year, the Alameda Elks are proud to sponsor the Alameda Spelling Bee in Alameda schools. Volunteers begin distributing dictionaries in schools in early fall of each year.
This year, the 2018 Alameda Spelling Bee, sponsored by the Alameda Elks, will be held on February 3rd, 9:30am-12pm, at Otis Elementary School, 3010 Fillmore Street (adjacent to Krusi Park). Students can visit this link to register.
ELIGIBILITY: All participants must be in the 4th-9th grades, and must reside and/or attend school in the city of Alameda.
Depending on the number of entrants, there may be a written as well as an oral spelling bee. The written test will determine a group of 25-30 spellers to participate in the oral bee.
Prizes will be given to the winning spellers. The top winners of the Alameda Spelling Bee will be sponsored to participate in the Alameda County Spelling Bee, to be held on Saturday, March 10. Based on the outcome, we may send spellers to participate in the Alameda County Elementary Bee (Grades 4-6) and/or the Alameda County Junior High Bee (Grades 7-9).
The top two winners of the two Alameda County competitions will be sponsored to participate in the California State Spelling Bee, to be held on May 5th (junior high level, in San Rafael) or May 12th (elementary level, in Stockton).
Registration Deadline: February 1, 2018. For additional information—and to register—please visit http://alamedaspellingbee.org.
