The Elks Pickleball Herd is for Elk members in good standing and their spouses who want to play the exciting game that is currently all the rage and our pack of pickleballers is definitely on the rise!

To join, use the link to pay the $40 registration fee and then $10 per month. When you go to the link, there’s one pull-down to pay the registration fee. You’ll have to also add the $10 per month to the cart (and might entail you paying the $40, then going back to set up the $10.) This will get you access to the upper floor only. Your Lodge keycard will be updated upon you paying your initial registration and your monthly fee.

To register, please fill out this form and deliver it to the Lodge office (drop it in the drop box). You must also email a soft copy here. Upon receipt of payment, you will be notified by email that your access card has been updated.

Members who sign up for Pickleball get access to our player finder sheet to help set up games (we will send by email). We have paddles and pickleballs for those who are still getting started and lockers available to store your stuff while you play.

Watch for classes and tournaments to be announced.

All levels of players are welcome.

Pickleball Fun Facts

Pickleball was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, near Seattle, Washington by three dads, Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum, whose kids were bored with their usual summertime activities. Pickleball has evolved from original handmade equipment and simple rules into a popular sport throughout the US and Canada. The game is growing internationally as well, with many European and Asian countries adding courts.

Despite the name, pickleball has nothing to do with actual pickles. Some claim that the name came from Pritchard’s cocker spaniel, Pickles. However, that family dog, who made his debut two years after they invented the sport, got his name from the game. According to one account, pickle was suggested by pickle boat, a boat in the sport of crew made up of rowers not chosen by other teams (as pickleball was amalgamated from features of other paddle sports).

Pickleball grew in 2021 to 4.8 million players in the US, an incredible two-year growth rate of 39.3 percent, and is considered to be the fastest-growing sport in the country
