We were very happy to host 19 Elks National Foundation college scholarship winners for dinner and a tour of the Alameda Elks Lodge on January 6th. The Scholars (college students who received financial aid from Elks National Foundation) were in the Bay Area for a week as part of their service project to give back to communities around the country. They helped out at the Alameda County Food Bank, the Rescue Mission in Richmond, Harbor House and Save the Bay.
Two lodges in the Bay District hosted them for dinner. The Richmond Elks Lodge hosted them Monday night and the Alameda Elks Lodge played host on Wednesday night. The students came from all parts of the country. They also enjoyed a day of sight seeing in San Francisco. seeing the Golden Gate Bridge and touring AT&T park. The Elks provided food, accommodations and transportation during the service projects. The scholars had to provide their own transportation to and from the Bay Area.
For our Alameda Elks, who attended the Scholars dinner, it was a wonderfully uplifting experience meeting so many bright and responsible young people. The Scholars were inquisitive about everyone’s life experiences and looking to learn as they step out to make an impact in the adult world. The Alameda Elks, the Richmond Elks and the Elks National Foundation are proud to do all we can to reward the best of our next generation.
